- Tips for sandy, exposed ground
Sandy soil
Sand drains quickly, which is good in winter and hard work in a dry spell. Mixing topsoil or well-rotted organic matter into the top layer helps the turf hold on to water while it roots.
Wind and salt
Wind dries turf out fast, especially just after laying. Water deeply, check the edges, and give it extra on breezy days. A hedge or fence on the windward side helps in the long run.
Questions people ask
Do I need to be in when the turf arrives?
No. We'll message your mobile and email when your turf is ready for delivery or collection, and again once it's been delivered or collected, although the message may not arrive at the exact moment it's left. Count your rolls once they've been left and before you start laying.
Can I lay turf straight onto sand?
It's better to improve the top layer first with topsoil, so the roots have something to hold moisture.
