Northumberland Turf

Terms of sale

These terms cover buying turf from us, whether we deliver it or you collect it. Placing an order means you accept them, so please read them before you pay.

1. Placing your order

You order on our website by choosing your quantity, delivery or collection, and a day, then paying securely through our payment provider. Your order is confirmed when payment goes through, and we email you a confirmation.

Your order is committed as soon as you place it and pay. We book your turf for your day and reserve your delivery or collection day (the day, not a set time) on our round, and we may turn away other orders for that day as a result. Please check your quantity, postcode, address and date before paying.

2. Prices

Turf is priced per roll, and each roll covers approximately 1 m². The price per roll depends on the quantity band your order falls into, as shown when you order. Delivery is priced by postcode. The total shown before you pay is the full amount you pay. If you collect, you pay for the turf only.

3. Ordering times

Order by 2pm the working day before your delivery or collection at the latest, but please order as far in advance as you can to avoid disappointment. On occasion, later ordering may be possible where a date shows as available.

We only show delivery dates on days we fully expect to be able to deliver your order, and we'll deliver on the day you choose wherever possible. Your chosen day is a requested day rather than a 100% guarantee, as vehicle delays, unexpected traffic and weather conditions can all occasionally get in the way. As standard, we'll call or message you to confirm your expected delivery day, and let you know if it ever needs to be a different day.

4. Changes and cancellations

Turf is perishable and cut to order for your day, so orders are final once placed and the 14-day cancellation period for online orders doesn't apply.

If something changes, contact us with your order reference and we'll help where we reasonably can. There are no refunds for a change of mind.

5. Collection

Collection is from our collection point near Newcastle Airport, Monday to Friday, by order only. The full address and directions are sent with your confirmation.

Please collect on your booked day in a vehicle suitable for the weight of your order, and load it safely. Turf that isn't collected on the day won't keep, so section 5 applies.

6. Delivery

We deliver to your property or the closest suitable and accessible point. We'll always leave your turf in the most convenient place we reasonably can, where it's possible and safe. On occasion we may not be able to leave it exactly where you'd prefer. Rolls are left at the property and aren't carried through houses or garages, along side paths or into back gardens. You don't need to be at home.

Please give accurate access notes when you order, such as gates, tracks, cattle grids, weak verges or parking restrictions. If we can't deliver because of access we weren't told about, we'll contact you to arrange another option and explain any extra cost before it's charged.

7. Checking your rolls

We count every order out to the number of rolls you've paid for. Please count yours and give them a quick look over.

Collections

Check your rolls before you leave the collection point. Once you drive away, the order is taken as complete and correct.

Deliveries

Check your rolls as soon as they've been left and before you start laying. If anything isn't right, tell us the same day with a photo of the stack as it was left. Once the turf is laid, or if we haven't heard from you by the end of the delivery day, the order is taken as delivered complete and in good condition.

Torn edges

Rolls are lifted and rolled by a harvesting machine. Ragged edges, small tears and the odd roll in two or more pieces are normal, knit together once laid and watered, and aren't treated as a fault.

Responsibility

Once your turf has been delivered to your property (or the closest suitable point) or collected, looking after it, watering it and laying it are your responsibility.

8. The turf itself

Turf is a natural, living product. Roll sizes are approximate and colour and texture vary with season and weather. Please lay it on the day you receive it. How well it takes depends on ground preparation, watering and aftercare.

9. Payment, weather and your rights

We take the whole payment when you order, via our card payment provider, and we never see or keep your full card details.

If something outside our control, such as severe weather, frozen or waterlogged fields or a vehicle breakdown, stops us cutting, delivering or having your turf ready on your day, we'll contact you to arrange a new day.

None of this affects your statutory rights.

We may update these terms from time to time. Your order is covered by the version published here on the day you paid.

10. Turf laying

If we lay your lawn, our turf laying terms apply instead, together with your written quote.
