Northumberland Turf

Turf laying terms

These terms cover turf laying jobs: preparing the ground, supplying and laying turf, and clearing up. Your written quote and these terms together make up our agreement.

1. Your quote

We price your job from the details, measurements and photos you send, and from a site visit if we make one. Your quote is valid for the period shown on it, or 7 days if none is shown.

What's included is what's listed on your quote, normally ground preparation, turf supplied and laid, and waste removal.

If the site, access, size or ground turn out to be different from what we were told or could reasonably see, we'll explain what's changed and agree any price change with you before doing extra work.

2. Booking and paying

Nothing is booked until you accept your quote and pay the deposit of £100. The deposit reserves your date and is taken off your final bill.

The balance is due on the day work begins, by bank transfer or card. Turf and materials remain ours until paid for.

3. Cancelling

As you accept your quote online, by phone or away from our premises, you have 14 days from accepting it to cancel. Tell us by email.

If you ask for work to start within those 14 days and then cancel before it begins, you'll pay for turf, materials and costs already committed to your job that we can't recover. Once work has begun on site, the full price is due.

You can use this wording: "To Northumberland Turf, Unit 3 Britannia House, Brunswick Industrial Estate, Newcastle upon Tyne NE13 7BA, info@northumberlandturf.co.uk: I/We give notice that I/We cancel my/our contract for the following service: [service], accepted on [date]. Name, address, date."

4. Changes after the 14 days

If you cancel after the 14 days, the deposit is kept to cover our costs. If you move to a new date, it moves with you. Turf ordered or cut for your job is paid for.

5. Dates, weather and access

We book dates in good faith, but weather, ground conditions, supply or an earlier job running over can move them. If that happens, we'll keep you informed and rebook the nearest suitable date. A job may run over more than one day.

Please give us safe, clear access to the lawn area, somewhere to park and unload, and a water supply. On rural sites, tell us about gates, tracks, livestock and weight limits.

6. Before we arrive

Clear the area of furniture and anything else in the way, and keep pets and livestock away from the work area.

Tell us about and mark any underground pipes, cables, drains, septic systems or irrigation. We can't be responsible for damage to anything we weren't told about and couldn't reasonably see. Work done by anyone else is their responsibility.

7. The turf

Turf is natural and varies in colour and texture with the season. If a variety isn't available, we may use a comparable alternative of similar quality.

8. Aftercare

New turf needs thorough, regular watering, and we'll give you aftercare guidance. How well it establishes depends on watering, weather, soil and use, which are outside our control once it's laid, so we don't guarantee that it will take.

If anything doesn't look right, tell us as soon as you can with photos, and we'll do what we reasonably can to help.

9. Photos

We may take photos and videos of the lawn before and after the job for our records and marketing, focusing on the lawn rather than people or your house. Tell us before we start if you'd rather we didn't use them for marketing.

10. Our responsibility to you

We're responsible for loss you suffer that's a foreseeable result of us breaking these terms or not using reasonable care and skill. We're not responsible for loss that wasn't foreseeable, or for business losses.

Nothing in these terms limits our liability where the law doesn't allow it, such as for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or fraud, and nothing affects your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

11. Your details and the law

We use your details as our privacy notice explains. We may update these terms; the version given with your quote, or the one published here when you book, applies. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.
